Keenan Recycling, the UK’s leading food waste collection business, has announced that Fergus Healy will be driving strategic development and the journey to net zero. A key aspect of this initiative will be to focus on the company’s environmental sustainability and to develop a detailed transition plan.
Mr Healy brings a wealth of experience in the waste management sector to the role. With a career spanning more than 20 years, he has built up considerable knowledge in food waste collection and treatment, having previously worked at senior level with both The TEG Group and Olleco.
A chartered environmental chemist, he has worked in various roles in the environmental services sector, most recently for several waste management businesses as a self-employed management consultant.
Grant Keenan, managing director of Keenan Recycling said: “Fergus brings a wealth of experience and an added dimension to our business that will not only enhance our core capabilities on our journey towards achieving net zero status, but will also allow us to continue to provide the most environmentally sustainable service in the market for our rapidly growing customer base.”
Mr Healy added: “I am delighted to be working with Grant and the team on these very important issues. Keenan Recycling has enjoyed a rapid expansion and now has full UK-wide coverage. I have been impressed that during this period of rapid growth its reputation for service excellence has remained intact. Client businesses have significant decarbonisation challenges over the next couple of years and we intend to work tirelessly in order to help them meet their environmental and legislative obligations as a supply chain partner of choice.”
Keenan Recycling, which reduces the amount of waste going into landfill by collecting and recycling organic material, currently processes more than 100,000 tonnes of organic waste each year. The company turns food waste into premium grade compost or biofuel, which generates electricity at numerous anaerobic digestion plants (ADs) across the UK.
The company consistently reviews its own systems to find energy efficient alternatives, such as alternative energy sources for its fleet of vehicles and using clean diesel technology.
Initially set up as a garden composting business, Keenan Recycling launched its commercial food waste collection services in Scotland in 2009, before moving south of the border in 2018, and expanding across England – offering their services nationwide. Keenan is passionate about delivering a cost-effective service that encourages customers to reduce the impact on the environment.
