Clan Cancer Support announced the appointment of a new chair, Katy Gifford, at its AGM in Aberdeen on November 13, 2024.
Katy who was previously Clan’s finance director, takes over from Stuart Cochrane who has held the role for the last three years.
A chartered accountant with more than 30 years’ experience in finance and senior management roles, Katy joined Clan’s board in 2018.
Katy has spent the majority of her career working within the energy sector. Since leaving full time employment she is now actively involved in higher education and the third sector in a variety of non-executive posts, including as vice chair of Robert Gordon University.
Following her appointment, Katy said: “I am immensely proud of the work Clan carries out in our local communities and am honoured to be appointed as chairperson.
“I am fully committed to continuing working closely with the board members, Clan’s CEO, Fiona Fernie and her senior management team to ensure Clan goes from strength to strength.”
Stuart, who is managing director of local energy company PDi Ltd, joined Clan’s board in December 2016, becoming chairperson in November 2021.
Stuart said: “The last eight years have been both challenging and rewarding for Clan and I am proud to have played a role in the charity, with the introduction of Clan’s sculpture trails and the charity’s growing recognition with the NHS being key highlights.
“I have great respect for Katy and have valued her support over the last few years and know that she will continue to positively influence and develop Clan as chairperson.”
Stuart will now continue to work with the charity as an ambassador.
Fiona Fernie, CEO of Clan Cancer Support added: “Stuart has seen Clan through one of the charity’s most difficult periods when we had to contend with the Covid pandemic which completely changed our operational and fundraising capabilities overnight.
“He has played an important role in the stabilisation and growth of Clan over the last few years. I am extremely grateful for his support and would like to sincerely thank him for all his help.
“Katy has been working alongside Stuart on the board for the past six years and during that time has proven to be an asset to the organisation. I’m very pleased to welcome her into the role of Chair to ensure consistency and continuity as we look to continue Clan’s growth and success.”
