Katherine Jenkins to perform one-off charity concert in Aberdeen

The world-famous classical singer Katherine Jenkins is to perform at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen for a spectacular one-off charity concert.

The lyric mezzo-soprano will visit Aberdeen for the performance on Saturday, February 20, where she will be supported by the Aberdeen-based chamber choir, Con Anima.

Sponsored by BP, the event is being organised by the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust, with all proceeds going to its chosen beneficiary, Scottish social care charity Cornerstone.

Cornerstone provides care and support services for adults, young people and children across Scotland who live with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, dementia and other support needs.

Tickets for the concert are on sale now priced from £29.50 including booking fee, online at www.aberdeenperformingarts.com, by phone at 01224 641122 and at Aberdeen Box Office at the Music Hall and His Majesty’s Theatre.

Welsh-born Katherine Jenkins OBE is a popular classical-crossover singer who performs across a spectrum of operatic arias, popular songs, musical theatre and hymns.

After winning singing competitions in her youth, Jenkins studied at the Royal Academy of Music, and became a music singing teacher.

Jenkins signed the biggest recording deal in classical music history at the young age of 23 and has since gone on to record ten studio albums as well as perform for The Pope, Presidents, and Royalty.

The lyrical mezzo-soprano's most recent album ‘Home Sweet Home’ was her seventh studio album to reach number one. Known as the forces sweetheart for entertaining the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, Katherine is the only artist confirmed by request to perform at Her Majesty the Queens 90th birthday celebration in May 2016.

Edel Harris, chief executive of Cornerstone, said: “We are very grateful to BP for sponsoring this special concert and to the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust for choosing Cornerstone as the beneficiary.

“Katherine is a hugely popular and high profile recording artist and I am positive the evening will be a huge success.

“The money raised on the night will help Cornerstone provide specialist support and services to adults, young people and children in the North-east who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities and other complex needs.”

Lord Provost George Adam said the night is set to be a huge success.

“We are absolutely thrilled Katherine Jenkins has agreed to perform in Aberdeen for the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust for one night only in February, to raise money for Cornerstone and help the people the charity supports,” he said.

“With the superb backing of Aberdeen choir Con Anima, this will be a fantastic night for music fans and we expect the tickets to sell very quickly.”

Established in 1980, Cornerstone supports over 2,600 people each year and delivers services across 20 local authority areas in Scotland.
