How sustainably does your workforce travel? Many employees commute to work, and make business trips, by a variety of modes including walking, cycling, public transport and car sharing among others. Technology even allows people to reduce the need to travel altogether by allowing working from home and teleconferencing into meetings.
Did you know you can actually get rewarded for this?
The Scottish Workplace Journey Challenge takes place during March 2019. All employers and their employees are encouraged to sign up. It is completely free to do so. All you need to do is log your work-related journeys during the month of March (whether these are commuting trips or business trips).
Journeys made by public transport, by car-sharing, walking, cycling and indeed working from home and teleconferencing all count, among a variety of other modes. Prizes available for workplaces and participants include walking and cycling training sessions and shopping and cinema vouchers. In addition participants in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire will also be eligible to win Grasshopper weekly bus passes.
There are categories for differently sized employers, meaning if you’re a small firm of half a dozen employees you don’t have to worry about going up against a multi-national corporate. The website also records calories burned and CO2 saved for each trip, so you can easily keep track of the impact you and your colleagues are making.
