Top UK accountancy and business advisory firm Johnston Carmichael’s private client tax team has secured a top industry award.
The firm won the Best Private Client Tax Practice award at the coveted UK-wide Tolley’s Taxation Awards 2024, which recognises excellence within the tax profession.
Led by partner and Head of Private Client Tax Alexandra Docherty, the practice was praised by judges at the event, held at the Hilton London Metropole on Thursday night, for how it puts clients “at the heart” of all its work.
The award win comes as the team enjoys an impressive year, growing to a headcount of 61, making it one of the largest private client tax practices in the UK.
The private client team’s turnover also grew year-on-year by 11.5% in the firm’s last financial year, ending May 31, 2023.

The firm’s Head of Tax Susie Walker, who has worked in a number of senior roles in the industry for over three decades, was also nominated for a Lifetime Achievement award at the event.
Tolley’s Taxation Awards encompasses a range of categories covering the whole of the tax profession including professional practices of all sizes, specialist firms, and those working in-house or in the public sector.
