Official plans have been lodged to convert Aberdeen's abandoned John Lewis building into a three-floor indoor go-kart track.
The much-loved city centre department store closed its doors in 2021 and, despite a brief revival as a Covid vaccination clinic, it has largely lain empty since.
Last year, work began stripping out the huge building in preparation for its new identity as the home of go-karting in the Granite City. And that transformation has now taken a big leap forward with the formal submission of a planning application for the significant development.
The plans, submitted by Tinto Architecture on behalf of Atree Retail Management Ltd, include changes of use to allow the site to be used for "motor vehicle recreation", as well as associated retail, cafes and restaurants and a bar. The Press and Journal reports that, according to detailed blueprints, the ground floor will include an arcade, party area and lounge, as well as a bowling area with several lanes. The first, second and third floors will be home to the exciting new go-kart track.
