Aberdeen-headquartered IT Managed Service Provider ITWORX UK has announced the promotion of Stuart Bowlerwell to technical director.

This strategic leadership role also places him on the Board alongside founders Philip Mowatt and Jill Ross. The promotion marks a pivotal step for the company as it continues to grow and develop its services, further solidifying its commitment to delivering exceptional technical expertise and support for clients across the North-east of Scotland.

Stuart Bowlerwell, who has been with ITWORX UK for over a decade, brings an extensive technical leadership and innovation background, making him a natural fit for the role. His promotion to Technical Director also underscores ITWORX UK’s commitment to nurturing talent from within and strengthening its core leadership to support its growth trajectory.

The North-east headquartered firm hit the headlines in 2020 when it transitioned to employee ownership, with 17 staff being given a stake in the business. Headcount now sits at 22 and sees ITWORX UK supporting clients across the North East of Scotland, with many of its clients having multi-site footprints.

Talking of his promotion and appointment to the Board, Stuart says: “It has been incredible to watch the business flourish from a humble start-up in 2010 when Philip and Jill began the ITWORX journey, to where we are now in 2024 as a team of 22 under an employee ownership business model, of which we are very proud. I began my career with ITWORX in the network team in 2012 as a Senior Network Engineer, progressing into a team leader position before being promoted to Solutions Architect, but part of my story is also interwoven into that we are now an employee-owned company.”

Stuart continues: “I am very proud that the employee-owned model allows progression which is encouraging for the future because this doesn’t stop with me. In 5, 10 or even 15 years, people who aren't part of ITWORX today will be stepping up to continue the fantastic work that we do.

"I am pleased to have been part of that and how that has been implemented. Being part of the Board with Philip and Jill enables me to continue that work which acts as the basis of how we grow and support our team as a company. Who the people are is such a strong part of the business and how we support each other is very important. I have experienced the support of the business in my professional and personal life and have been a beneficiary of that. This is something I want to instill and continue to support in both my new role and as part of the Board.”

“Stuart’s technical expertise and dedication have been instrumental to ITWORX’s success,” says Philip Mowatt, customer success director. “Stuart has been with us since the beginning and played a pivotal part in our journey, which has included becoming an employee-owned business. Jill and I warmly welcome him to the Board, and are excited to see the new insights and strategies he will bring in his role as technical director.”
