Team Aberdeen, a collaboration that assists in securing high profile conferences to the city is pleased to welcome The James Hutton Institute to the programme.

Team Aberdeen ensures a collaborative approach assisting in securing high profile conferences to the city and has senior level representation from stakeholders including Aberdeen City and Shire Council, Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC), Aberdeen International Airport, The Robert Gordon University, The University of Aberdeen and VisitAberdeen.

The James Hutton Institute is an international research centre based in Scotland and is one of the Scottish Government’s main research providers in environmental, crop and food science. The institute employs more than 600 scientists and support staff, making it one of the biggest research centres in the UK and the first of its type in Europe.

The announcement of the Institute joining Team Aberdeen comes following the success of the recent European Society for Rural Sociology Conference which was held at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) in August 2015 and welcomed 400 international delegates.

Team Aberdeen’s success has helped to attract 31 conferences in the last year with the help of local influencers which is continuing to grow for the future with conferences being confirmed well into 2017: 2016 International Institute of Fisheries Economics and Trade (IIFET), secured by Hazel Curtis from Seafish and Professor Jimmy Young from Stirling University. 2017 IEEE Oceans, secured by Professor John Watson, University of Aberdeen. 2017 International Conference on Mechanisms of Action of Nutraceuticals (ICMAN), secured by Professor Cherry Wainwright, Dr Giovanna Bermano from RGU and Dr Bauke de Roos from the Rowett Research Institution.

Professor Cherry L Wainwright, Director of the Institute for Health and Welfare Research The Robert Gordon University and local Chair for ICMAN 2017, said: “Organising an international conference is an exciting experience, but also a lot of hard work. Without the enormous support from Team Aberdeen in terms of conference organisation, sourcing hotel accommodation and identifying superb venues for the social events, it would have been so much harder. Everyone was so incredibly helpful - they truly work together as a great team and it was a joy to work alongside them.”

Graeme Cumming, Interim Managing Director at AECC said “Team Aberdeen have been working continuously to bring association conferences to Aberdeen which sees a considerable boost in both economic impact and business tourism to the region. Aberdeen’s team approach is fantastic for attracting conferences and events of this scale to the city and we look forward to continuing to work with the ambassadors on future events.”

Local Ambassadors recently enjoyed an evening at AECC to learn about the AECC new development and how they could benefit from working in collaboration with Team Aberdeen.
