Thousands of people lined the streets of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire yesterday to pay their respects to the Queen on her final journey through Scotland.
The 175-mile journey took it through Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen, Angus and Tayside before reaching the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
The coffin was draped in the Queen's standard with a wreath made from some of her favourite flowers - white heather, dahlias and sweet peas - all cut from the gardens at Balmoral.
The cortege weaved its way through Ballater and Royal Deeside to the city’s boundary at Peterculter, Milltimber, Bieldside, and Cults. It then travelled along Great Western Road to its junction with Holburn Street, turned right on to Holburn Street and then down Great Southern Road passing Duthie Park, over the King George VI Bridge and onto Great Southern Road to the Stonehaven Road (A92).
The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Dr David Cameron in his role as Lord-Lieutenant led the city’s tribute as the cortege passed Duthie Park and was joined by the Co-Leaders of Aberdeen City Council, the Chief Executive, Elected Members, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant, Deputy Lieutenants and other distinguished guests. A similar delegation from Aberdeenshire Council watch the late monarch pass through Ballater.
Mr Cameron said: “The city turned out in huge numbers today to pay their respects to Her Majesty The Queen as she took her final journey from her beloved Scottish home in the North-east.
“We were honoured to be here to say farewell and show Her family and indeed the world how well-regarded and loved The Queen was in the City of Aberdeen – she will be greatly missed.”
The King and members of the Royal Family will follow the Queen's coffin in a procession along Edinburgh's Royal Mile this afternoon.
St Giles' Cathedral will then host a service to celebrate the Queen's life and her connection to Scotland.
She will lie at rest until Tuesday afternoon, allowing members of the public to pay their last respects.
Thousands of people are expected to line the city's streets as Scotland says its final farewell to the Queen.
Her funeral will be on Monday 19 September.
