The row between the Scottish Conservatives and Jeremy Hunt after last week's windfall tax extension has continued with a Tory MSP saying Mr Hunt is "careless".

The Chancellor said last week that the Scottish oil and gas sector was a "loser" of the budget.

But in an interview with the BBC on Sunday, Stephen Kerr said he didn't think they were "wisely chosen worlds".

"To describe the oil and gas sector as the ‘Scottish oil and gas sector, seems to me to be a bit careless on the part of the chancellor," he added.

Prior to the budget, Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross had made a personal appeal to Mr Hunt urging him not to extend the Energy Profits Levy until by a further year.

His protestations fell on deaf ears though, as the extension was used to help fund a UK-wide 2p National Insurance cut.

The announcement was widely criticised by the Chancellor's Scottish colleagues with Mr Ross, Andrew Bowie and David Duguid all expressing their opposition to the policy.

"It’s a thoroughly bad idea”, Mr Kerr added.

"We’ll be doing our level best to persuade our government that it’s not a good idea."
