Australian contemporary circus company Circa is set to visit Aberdeen for the first time, following their run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, bringing Aberdeen Performing Arts’ inaugural International Season to a close.
Described as a symphony of acrobatics, sound and light, Humans 2.0 will be at His Majesty’s Theatre from Thursday, September 5 – Saturday, September 7. Promising tightly woven choreography, dramatic lighting and music by composer Ori Lichtik, this critically acclaimed show examines what it is to be human in a breathtaking display.
The show is part of Aberdeen Performing Arts’ inaugural International Season which kicked off in June, introducing some of the most innovative and cutting-edge performers from around the world to audiences in Aberdeen. Some of the Southern Hemisphere’s most entertaining acts - Gravity and Other Myths, Lucy Peach and Trygve Wakenshaw all appeared in the line-up ahead of their shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Continuing in September, Humans 2.0 will close the season in a spectacular way.
Aberdeen Performing Arts Chief Executive, Sharon Burgess, said: “Humans 2.0 is a stunning show. High octane performances from risk-taking and cutting-edge performers leave you on the edge of your seat throughout. Circa are the future of circus acrobatics and we are absolutely thrilled to be bringing this amazing spectacle to Aberdeen.
“Our International Season has been so well received with fantastic reviews and a real excitement and appetite from our audiences to see more. We’re really looking forward to shaping this into an annual part of the cultural and entertainment offering in the North East.”
Circa is one of the world's leading performance companies. Since 2004, from its base in Brisbane, Australia, Circa has toured the world - performing in more than 45 countries to nearly 2 million people. Their works have been greeted with standing ovations, rave reviews and sold-out houses across six continents.
Circa is at the forefront of the new wave of contemporary Australian circus - pioneering how extreme physicality can create powerful and moving performances. It continues to push the boundaries of the art form, blurring the lines between movement, dance, theatre and circus.
In this next chapter of Circa’s internationally acclaimed Humans, 10 bodies appear in a flash of light. They move in harmony for a fleeting moment and then descend into a sinuous trance. Towers grow and decay, bodies leap and are caught, as physical limits are pushed to their extreme. Can we ever find a perfect balance or is adapting to constant change the only way forward?
Created by circus visionary Yaron Lifschitz, Humans 2.0 is intimate, primal and deeply engaged with the challenge of being human.
