Human Factors workshop to examine human performance and safety in the workplace

Safety is a key concern in any industry, from air transport to manufacturing. The upcoming workshop is to introduce professionals to human factors concepts and tools that can be used to increase safety at work. The one hour workshop will consist of four segments:

  • Introduction to Human Factors and main safety issues
  • Discuss human factors that attendees have noticed at their own place of work
  • Find out more about non-technical skills and why those skills are vital in high risk scenarios
  • Apply what has been learned to a case study

The origins of Psychology at the University of Aberdeen reach as far back as 1896, the year in which the Anderson Lectureship in Comparative Psychology was founded. The School has developed since then to become a vibrant, research-led environment with a variety of specialist groups, including the Applied Psychology and Human Factors group.

The School has a long history of Industrial and Human Factors research. Currently led by Dr Amy Irwin, this research is predominantly focused on improving safety across a range of industries including aviation, transport, nuclear power, offshore drilling, farming and healthcare. Many of these projects have involved collaboration with major industry and government contacts.

Attendees will receive a certificate for one hour of continuing professional development (CPD) from the 2019 Scottish University of the Year 2019.
