Family support charity Home-Start Aberdeen has been selected as a finalist in the inaugural national Charity Champions Awards.
The volunteer-led charity, which provides local families with emotional and practical support in their own homes, is one of ten charities short-listed in the community award category.
The Charity Champions Awards were established to celebrate and reward the work of organisations and individuals in Scotland’s third sector. Finalists are selected as a result of public votes. The community award is open to charities who work to improve the lives of those in their local community.
“We are delighted to have been short-listed as a Charity Champions finalist,” says Georgette Cobban, scheme manager, Home-Start Aberdeen. “Our staff and volunteers work incredibly hard to make a difference to the lives of local families and this is a wonderful acknowledgement of their efforts.
“It is particularly touching to become a finalist on the strength of a public vote. On behalf of all of the team, I would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote for us.”
The Home-Start Aberdeen team and their fellow finalists now have a fortnight to prepare a supporting statement for review by the Charity Champions independent judging panel. Winners in all categories will be announced at the gala final at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow on Thursday, December 3.
Home-Start Aberdeen has been providing vulnerable families throughout Aberdeen city with emotional and practical support for over 28 years. Trained volunteers work with referred families in their own homes to develop parent confidence, skills and self-esteem. To receive assistance, families must be based within Aberdeen and have a child under five years old; otherwise there are no barriers to access.
