HMRC have recently taken on a large project to replace CHIEF, the UK computer system for processing revenue and customs services, with a new system called CDS (Customs Declaration Services).
The project will also incorporate changes in European legislation laid down in the Unified Customs Code (UCC), making the impact of changes over the coming years quite large. HMRC have set an aggressive release date of October 2017 and are keen to speak with organisations that currently do, or would wish to, connect to the new system in order to ensure that the release date is achievable by all trade sectors.
It is advised that businesses assess their current methods and software used for communicating with HMRC as there are likely to be impacts, and systems will need to be replaced or upgraded in order to continue to communicate with HMRC, which could impact your ability to do business once the new HMRC import/export system goes live.
