A local videographer who captured footage of the Northern Lights shining over Pittodrie stadium is selling prints of the iconic image and donating the proceeds to Aberdeen FC’s Community Trust.

Glen Cairns had long been trying to capture the Aurora Borealis at AFC’s stadium and on May 11 earlier this year, on the anniversary of the club’s famous victory over Real Madrid, he managed to get the shot which has since gone viral on social media.

Glen, who manages Glen Cairns Video Productions, has now issued a print run of the stunning scenes entitled ‘One Night Under the Heavenly Dancers’ with A3 posters available for pre – order now.

Limited edition framed prints are also available to buy with all proceeds going towards supporting the work of Aberdeen FC Community Trust.

Glen said: “This is a once in a lifetime shot that I still pinch myself about. It brings together two icons; the Aurora Borealis and Pittodrie where the Red Army has sung about the northern lights of old Aberdeen many times.

“Following the brilliant response to the images online I’m pleased they are now available for fans and proud Aberdonians to own and I’m honoured to support the Trust and the great work they do across our communities.”

The kind support of Glen will be a significant boost to the income of AFCCT, with the organisation having marked its 10th anniversary in July this year.

AFCCT Chief Executive Liz Bowie said: “The ‘One Night Under the Heavenly Dancers’ photos are simply breath taking and testimony to Glen’s talent. We are thrilled that he has decided to support AFCCT through the sale of the prints. As a former member of AFC staff, Glen has witnessed the work and impact of the Trust providing support and opportunity to change lives for the better. I hope that AFC fans will buy the print which will be a wonderful addition to any home whilst also helping the community at the same time.”

A number of the small batch of framed prints will be donated to AFCCT for auction at their upcoming lunch and gala dinner events in 2025. Only 83 of the limited-edition framed copies are available to buy, with print number two already gifted to Sir Alex Ferguson.

Glen added: “For me, the Gothenburg connection to the image makes it even more meaningful and as a lifelong Dons fan I wanted to offer my first framed print to the man who steered the Club to that unbelievable success in European football.

“I was overwhelmed by his positive response to the image and how grateful he was to have received the first print. I’m incredibly touched that Sir Alex has been involved in what has undoubtedly been one of the proudest moments of my career so far.”

Both limited edition framed prints and A3 poster prints can be pre-ordered online now here for delivery on November 4. Those keen to buy sooner, can purchase in person this Saturday, October 12 at Michies Pharmacy where a special pop-up shop will be in place from 11am – 2pm

Accompanying the print series will be a behind-the-scenes documentary, capturing the story behind the Heavenly Dancers, and showcasing footage from the incredible moment Glen captured the once-in-a-lifetime shot.

The documentary ‘One Night Under the Heavenly Dancers’ will be streamed from 5pm on Sunday, October 13th on Glen Cairns Video Production’s YouTube Channel.
