Staff, pupils and parents of Hazlehead Academy put on their running shoes on Saturday (November 9) to walk, jog, run and volunteer at their local Hazlehead Parkrun.
Parkruns are free weekly timed 5km runs which take place across the world on Saturday mornings.
Fiona McIver, home economics teacher at Hazlehead Academy, said: “Many of the pupils, parents and staff run the various Parkruns in Aberdeen so we thought it would be a good idea to encourage more to come along by doing a takeover on Saturday.
“As a school we promote getting involved in the local community and being active, so it was an ideal choice.”
All the volunteering roles such as timekeeping and barcode scanning were undertaken by staff while other staff members were joined by parents and pupils to take up the challenge of running the course.
As well as running and volunteering, pupils and staff from the school art department painted a mural for the side of the Parkrun container which brightens up the start of the course.
Head teacher Jim Purdie, said: “This is the first time I have been involved in running a Parkrun and I was really impressed with the organisation and community atmosphere. I will certainly be running it again in the future and I look forward to seeing more of our pupils, parents and staff participating and working with Hazlehead Parkrun.”
