New halo-style lights are planned for the central part of Union Street as the multimillion pound redevelopment work gets underway.
The lights will hang between 10m and 12m above the ground to "create an attractive and illuminated space for members of the public."
The wires would hang from nine buildings on the Granite Mile, with special permission needed to screw metal onto various listed buildings.
Permission is also needed from the building owners, though the council has admitted that contact information for many of them "is not public knowledge".
