growing and expanding your business: key considerations

Date: Wednesday September 14

Time: 4:30pm - 7:30pm

Venue: Meldrum House Country Hotel, Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire, AB51 0AE

Maclay Murray & Spens LLP, in conjunction with Grampian Food Forum and Scottish Enterprise, will host a free seminar on expanding your business, whether into new products, markets or territories.

Against the backdrop of the current economic and industry challenges, Scottish Enterprise’s Ian Garrett will discuss the practical benefits and support that Scottish Enterprise offers to food and drink companies to help them to grow and compete in UK and international markets.

One of the keys to successful expansion is ensuring your business’s intellectual property rights (especially branding) are properly protected. Julie Brown and Susan Snedden, IP specialists from MMS, will discuss the impact that expanding your business will have on your IP, how to ensure you have the correct protections in place and how to deal with infringements. They will also give an overview of legal issues to consider in relation to your marketing materials, with a focus on advertising laws which apply to the food and drink sector, and the rules around promotions and competitions.

Paul Duncan of Duncan’s of Deeside, a third generation, award winning family run bakery with over two decades of experience, will share his experiences of the company’s recent expansion into the gluten-free and free-from market under a joint venture with Pulsetta Foods.

There will be plenty of opportunity for networking. Also, our speakers, together with members of MMS’ dedicated food and drink team, will be available for one-to-one chats and will welcome the opportunity to speak to you about specific opportunities for your business.
