As part of this year’s Spectra festival in Aberdeen, art exhibition End Over End will feature shipping containers provided by Greenwell Equipment.
End Over End, created by Newcastle-based Studio Vertigo, a multidisciplinary design and fabrication studio lead by artists Lucy McDonnell and Stephen Newby, will feature a gigantic illuminated slinky toy on top of the 10ft and 20ft containers, that lights up to create the movement of the nostalgic toy.
The artwork playfully transforms its environment into a virtual playground. Each coil of the oversized spring is illuminated in turn to create the familiar flowing form of a slinky tumbling end-over-end into the shadows.
The oversized scale makes the viewer appear ‘smaller’ and the relationship between viewer, object and space is disrupted. Proportions between you and the ‘toy’ are reversed as if we have shrunk and somehow ended up in Alice’s Wonderland.
As well as providing the containers, Greenwell has also provided an office cabin for staff to use during the festival.
Sales director Scott Brown said: “It’s great to get involved with this year’s festival, especially in our hometown. We love getting involved in events in our community like Spectra and it’s been fantastic to see how our products can be utilised in different and creative ways. We’re excited for the public to see the stunning display at Marischal Square for themselves.”

From delivering the containers to providing the office cabin for our staff, Greenwell clearly understood what we needed.”
Spectra, which is now in its 11th year, runs from Thursday 6 to Sunday 9 February and will see Aberdeen city centre filled with artwork, light installations, projections and thousands of visitors. Spectra is owned and commissioned by Aberdeen City Council and produced by Live Event Management.
Greenwell Equipment, established in 1996, provide new and used containers for shipping and storage, available for sale or rental from their depot in Aberdeen. They also provide new and used office furniture, portable and modular buildings as well as warehouse racking , shelving systems and a wide range of warehouse equipment and accessories.
