Great British Energy is offering an annual pay packet of over half a million pounds per year to its new chief executive.

The UK Government is offering a salary of up to £350,000 per year, plus a performance-related bonus of up to 50%, for the CEO of Great British Energy (GBE), the publicly owned energy company set to drive Britain’s shift to clean power.

Headquartered in Aberdeen, GBE’s mission is to “drive forward the transition to secure, affordable, and sustainable energy” by scaling up renewables, investing in emerging technologies, and ensuring economic benefits remain in the UK.

The CEO will be responsible for shaping GBE’s long-term vision and values, working closely with government, industry, and local communities.

The successful candidate will “spearhead investment into new energy projects, scaling up technologies like floating offshore wind, hydrogen, and energy storage”, while also ensuring the UK remains a global leader in the clean energy sector.

The role requires an “inspirational leader with extensive board-level experience”, deep sector knowledge, and the ability to engage with key stakeholders, including government ministers and regulatory bodies.

The CEO will “establish GBE with a reputation as a credible player in the UK’s energy sector”, while also ensuring it delivers on economic, social, and environmental targets.

GBE has been allocated £8.3billion in funding, with the new leader expected to build upon the work of the interim CEO and “deliver against the key strategic objectives” of the organisation.
