The health secretary Neil Gray has apologised for "inadvertently" misleading MSPs over using ministerial cars to attend Aberdeen football matches.
Mr Gray initially claimed he attended the matches in a work capacity and had minutes for every meeting. However, the minister announced yesterday he had mislead MSPs over the matter.
Following a Freedom of Information (FOI) request, a Sunday newspaper was told by the government that there was no note produced of the meeting at the 2023 league cup final at Hampden Park.
The Dons fan previously insisted his use of his ministerial limousine to travel to and from four games was justified as they constituted government business.
However, he has now apologised to the Scottish Government for falsely stating there were official documentation for all meetings he said he held during the Aberdeen matches he attended.
He told MSPs he was sorry for the inadvertent error and wished to correct the record.
Scottish Tory MSP Stephen Kerr said Mr Gray had been forced into a "humiliating apology" and that "serious questions remain for the SNP health secretary to answer.
“He has misled parliament and it will be clear to the public that he has only made this statement because he has been found out.”
Labour MSP Neil Bibby said Mr Gray had only apologised “because of pressure from opposition parties and the press”, adding: “We need honesty and transparency from SNP ministers, not this culture of secrecy and spin.”
