Glencraft awarded Social Enterprise of the Year accolade

Glencraft, a manufacturer and supplier of high-quality, handmade mattresses, was last night [30 September] announced as the winner of the Social Enterprise of the Year Award category at the 2015 UK Private Business Awards.

The award, which celebrates the best of UK private businesses and its contribution to the UK economy, was presented to Glencraft for its continual commitment to social entrepreneurship.

As a registered charity, Glencraft has been producing high quality products since 1843 with all profits re-invested to provide career opportunities for employees with a range of abilities and disabilities.

Graham McWilliam, General Manager for Glencraft, commented on the success: “The entire team is honoured to receive this prestigious award - being recognised for the work we do for our employees and our community is a very proud moment.”

The company’s recognition follows on from a string of successes for Glencraft this year. In July, the company launched several of its esteemed products with Argos online, the UK’s largest mattress retailer, resulting in a number of orders from across the UK.

Glencraft also moved into a new 21,000 sq ft. purpose built factory and showroom in April. The Aberdeen-based premises has allowed for a more streamline manufacturing process of Glencraft products and has improved the working conditions of its 46 members of staff, of which 80% are disadvantaged, disabled or visually impaired.

“This year has seen phenomenal growth for Glencraft and an exciting time for the whole team as we look to continue this momentum benefiting our community. The award is a testament to the dedication of this fantastic enterprise, leaving the whole team with a real sense of pride.” Mr McWilliam concluded.
