Ginno tees off for 9-hole launch at Maverston

Moray Firth Radio presenter, Ginno Conti of ‘Ginno at Breakfast’, took to Maverston Golf Course’s fairways to hit the first ball at the new 9-hole course near Elgin this week.

Maverston Golf Course, part of the ANM Group, has launched its new 9-hole, 1,250 yard Par 3 course to complement its current 18-hole parkland course and offer variety to its visiting golfers. The golf course in Urquhart, now in its second year after officially opening to the public in April 2014, has welcomed thousands of visitors and is keen to widen the opportunities available to the local community whilst also attracting golfers from all over the UK.

Ginno, teeing off for the official opening on Thursday (Aug 13) said: “I think that it’s a great idea that Maverston is launching a 9-hole par 3 course. No matter what your golfing level, a 9-hole course helps you shape your whole game. It is a pleasure to hit the first ball of the new course to officially open it. I was expecting to hit a fresh air shot, so booked a mulligan in advance. Fore!”

With the addition of the new 9-hole course, the set up at Maverston also boasts the 18-hole, 6,089 yard Par 70 parkland course; 18-hole 5,265 yard Par 73 ladies tees; putting green; extensive fixtures list; access to a PGA coaching professional; catering and bar services at the clubhouse; equipment hire facilities and merchandise.

Richard Sharp, Head Greenkeeper, and his team have been working hard to prepare the course ready for launch. Mr Sharp said: “The whole course has been designed around the stunning location and spectacular views we have here at Maverston. Each hole has been carefully planned to complement the beauty of the area and offer different levels of challenge. We are keen to provide a number of choices and fulfil the needs of all our visitors from beginners to professionals and members to non-members.”

Maverston Golf Course offers a variety of memberships. Prospective members can contact the Club on 01343 843863 to arrange a guided tour or visit www.maverstongolf.com for more information. Alternatively, search on Facebook and Twitter for ‘Maverstongolf’.
