What started as a standard shipment procedure for oversized module units and containers, brought out the dynamic problem-solving skills and agility of the staff at GEODIS Aberdeen.
The ‘Therm Process’ shipment required moving from an Industrial Project site in Peterhead, North-east Scotland to Grenaa Harbour in Mainland Denmark. Hereupon arrival, the whole system had to be fitted to a vessel named Maersk Invincible, an ‘ultra-harsh environment jack-up rig’ planned to work on a project in the North Sea for the next 12 months.
Following several customer schedule amendments, GEODIS had to work to tighter deadlines and find alternative solutions from the originally agreed plans. Following detailed research, there would only be one solution, a small coaster charter vessel, and after checking several solutions the customer was supplied with sailing options directly from Aberdeen to Grenaa port.
Unfortunately, the planned vessel faced a technical difficulty and once again, resorting to Plan-B on an even shorter deadline, Aberdeen Branch Manager Mikie Clark and his team were able to secure another vessel within the agreed budget, namely M/V Christine. They were finally ready to ship!
After further delays due to heavy winds and sea swell, the vessel finally departed Aberdeen and sailed direct to Grenaa port where the goods were unloaded without incident and transferred to the Maersk invincible that was located at another berth at Grenaa harbour.
