The Gathimba Edwards Foundation (GEF) has launched its annual “12 Days 12 Futures” campaign, sharing inspiring stories of 12 Kenyan children whose lives it hopes to transform by access to education.
Since 2015, this initiative has connected over 108 children with sponsors, opening doors to a brighter future and life-changing opportunities.
Through GEF’s Sponsor-a-Child program, these sponsorships provide children with essential resources, including school supplies, meals, and ongoing support.
GEF’s impact extends across 24 counties in Kenya, supporting children from nursery through to university.
Reflecting on the campaign’s achievements, GEF founder Myles Edwards shared: “As we celebrate our 10th year, we’ve seen incredible progress in Kenya and North-east Scotland.
"What began with providing basics like mattresses has grown into supporting young people as they graduate in fields like software engineering, journalism, and business innovation.
"Their success highlights the transformative power of education, compassion, and opportunity.”
In the past decade, GEF has provided educational assistance to 662 children, with 457 currently receiving support. This year, GEF expanded its reach by opening two community libraries in Iten and Karatina, creating safe spaces for learning, counselling, and community seminars.
Additionally, GEF donated books to Turkana’s Parish Church and community library, enriching local students’ learning environments.
GEF’s mentorship program, led by alumni and university students, further demonstrates the foundation’s commitment to nurturing leadership and resilience among young people.
Kevin Mathenge, GEF’s general manager in Kenya, explained: “Our goal extends beyond education - it’s about creating a support system that encourages young people to envision a brighter future.”
Through these ongoing efforts, GEF has celebrated 204 students completing primary school, 153 finishing secondary school, and, by year-end, will mark 72 university graduates.
The Sponsor-a-Child program remains the core of GEF’s mission in Kenya, empowering children to achieve their potential through education.
The "12 Days 12 Futures" campaign invites supporters from around the world to help more Kenyan children access life-changing educational opportunities.
Each child’s story, shared daily in between November 18 and 29, shows how one sponsorship can impact entire communities, creating ripple effects that last a lifetime.
