British wholesale gas prices have reached their highest level in more than eight months amid fears escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia.
The price of natural gas surged past 100p on Monday, it's highest price since December last year, peaking at 104.6p in late morning.
Last week Kyiv launched an invasion into the Russian Kursk region, before releasing an unverified video appearing to show Ukranian soldiers in control of a gas measuring facility in the town of Sudzha, a key site for Russian exports.
Domestic supply issues have also contributed to the rising price, notably a recent unplanned outage at Baston Seal on the Norfolk coast, while the St Fergus terminal in Aberdeenshire will soon close for more than five weeks.
Meanwhile, oil prices are also increasing as tensions in the Middle East heighten.
Threats of an attack from Iran on Israel prompted a surge in the price of Brent crude to $82.30, its highest level in weeks.
Brent crude was as low as $76 a barrel last week following fears over a US recession, although fears have since eased.
