Full service Scottish legal firm exceeds record turnover

Scottish legal firm Ledingham Chalmers has increased group turnover to £12.5million, exceeding 2014’s record turnover by 0.76%.

This builds on the strong performance in the 2014 financial year where the firm recorded a 15% growth in turnover. The results for the year to 31 March 2015 reflect the firm’s incremental and lasting growth.

Ledingham Chalmers, which has offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Inverness and Stirling, noted a strong performance in commercial property, reflecting the level of activity within the Aberdeen real estate sector, while all areas of the business, including private client, rural, corporate and litigation, returned solid performances.

Chairman and Partner Jennifer Young said: “These financial results are evidence of our continued, steady year on year growth since the firm broke the £10million mark in 2012. We continue to invest in the future of the business, with a strong emphasis on our people and developing our infrastructure”.

Brian Hay, Chief Executive Officer at Ledingham Chalmers, said: “While the uncertainty within the oil and gas sector has impacted the level of activity in commercial work, and residential property in Aberdeen, performance across all areas of the business remains in line with expectations, and we anticipate a further increase in turnover at year end”.

The firm continues to seek out opportunities in growth sectors, with the SME market a core focus area. It has continued to recruit within the corporate team, recently welcoming senior associate John Findlay to the Aberdeen team, while Craig Pike’s promotion to partner has brought partner numbers up to 31.

Jennifer added: “Our strategy for driving the business forward has been, and continues to be, focused on long-term sustainability rather than short-term gain. This focus remains even more relevant into 2016 which marks the 25th anniversary since Ledingham Chalmers came into being, following the merger of Aberdeen heavy weights C&PH Chalmers and Edmonds and Ledingham.”
