Superdrug opens new store at Bridge of Don Retail Park

Health and beauty retailer Superdrug has opened its third store in Aberdeen.

The new branch at Bridge of Don Retail Park is now the largest in the area, at 7,061 square feet.

The store has moved into the former Carpetright unit on Denmore Road, between Home Bargains and Pets at Home.

Luton airport expansion approved by government

London Luton Airport hopes to almost double annual passenger numbers to 32 million by 2043 after the government approved expansion plans, including a new terminal.

It came despite the Planning Inspectorate recommending Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander rejected them over environmental concerns.

The expansion plans involve building a new terminal, new taxiways and increasing capacity in the existing terminal, from its current 18 million passengers a year.

Tunnock’s tea cakes cleared for take-off by RAF 60 years after ban

Chocolate shards and sticky marshmallow make for unusual shrapnel. But a longstanding myth that Tunnock’s Tea Cakes exploded at altitude led to them being banned from RAF cockpits.

Now, the 60-year-old rumour has been dispelled by RAF engineers who say the Scottish delicacy is fit to fly.

In tests to determine if the teacakes exploded at high altitude, the RAF Centre of Aerospace Medicine in Henlow, Bedfordshire, showed that the Scottish tea cake’s casing cracked apart but nothing resembling an explosion took place.
