People will be able to dance the night away at a free ceilidh in Aberdeen to celebrate St Andrew’s Day.

Folk are invited to drop in to the St Andrew’s Day Ceilidh on the Terrace which is being held in the Christmas Village entertainment marquee on Monday, November 30 from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.

The band will be HipFlask – a vibrant, energetic and entertaining Scottish band with all the classic ceilidh dances and a few surprises mixed in. The band’s drummer will act as the caller to explain what the different dances are and make sure everyone steps in line.

When participants feel the need for a breather from dancing, they can purchase

refreshments from the Christmas Village which will be in full swing with

the open-air ice rink, German market stalls and festive fairground rides all

open. The Christmas Village, which was officially launched on Thursday 26 November and is open until Sunday 3 January, includes an open-air ice rink, festive fairground rides, a German-style market, and live entertainment in the marquee.

Folk joining in or even watching from the sidelines are invited to share their photographs on social media using #MyStAndrewsDay

The St Andrew’s Day Ceilidh on the Terrace is one of 11 events being held as part of the city’s Winter Festival which is the biggest-ever event of its kind the city has had - more major events were asked for by residents and businesses during the consultations for the Masterplan.

Aberdeen City Council Deputy Leader Marie Boulton said: “The ceilidh will be great fun and is a great way to celebrate St Andrew’s Day in Aberdeen – we look forward to welcoming lots of folk to the event, whether they are seasoned ceilidh dancers or first-timers wanting to have some festive fun.”
