Four out of four. DM Hall’s young professionals sweep the board in RICS assessments

Success builds upon success and this autumn’s talented cohort at DM Hall, one of Scotland’s foremost firms of Chartered Surveyors, have gone through the card in the final professional hurdle of their exhaustive training.

4 out of 4 of the Scotland-wide firm’s young stars who sat the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) have passed with flying colours, qualifying them as members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

And their achievement highlights DM Hall’s commitment to diversity of talent and its encouragement of staff who want to further their professional careers through non-traditional routes.

It also brings to 8 in total the number of new fully-qualified staff this year, following a similar success in May for four young surveyors in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Falkirk.

Eric Curran, managing partner of DM Hall, said: “This is a tremendous result for these hard-working and high-achieving young professionals, who have demonstrated that talent, vision and enthusiasm can take you as far and as fast as the more usual entry route to the profession.

“Non-standard ways of entry can be extraordinarily and mutually beneficial, allowing young surveyors to absorb the standards, ethics and ethos of the firm at the same time as they are progressing their careers.”

The four surveyors who qualified this time are:

  • Calum Riach, who began his time in property as an estate agent before joining DM Hall in the Inverness office, from where he carries out residential work across Strathspey and the Western Isles. He became an Assoc RICS surveyor in May 2016.
  • Graham Wilson, in the Musselburgh and Galashiels offices, who worked in residential property management with a letting agency before joining DM Hall in 2018.
  • Kevin Masson, who trained to be a bricklayer before studying building surveying at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and then taking up a graduate position with the firm. He now works in the Ayr office.
  • Duncan Clow, whose academic career focused on international relations and management studies, then finance and real estate. He now specialises in farm and estate valuation at the firm’s Bridge of Allan office.

Eric Curran added: “Celebrations are more than justified for these talented young people. DM Hall will continue to mentor them and provide training as they progress in their careers and we look forward to seeing them all flourish under the firm’s umbrella where future opportunities await.”
