Leading figures from the industry and the Oil and Gas Authority (OGA), will join Oil & Gas UK at its forthcoming Breakfast Briefing, sponsored by Petrotechnics, on the topic of ‘Progress in UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) Exploration and Production’ on December 8.
While continuing to face a tough business environment, there is now evidence that the industry is making encouraging progress in both exploration and production activities on the UKCS. Oil & Gas UK’s last breakfast briefing of 2015 at the AECC will provide attendees with a timely update on the current status of exploration and production.
Following recent news of significant discoveries on the UKCS, Cory Loegering, region vice president – UK Region and managing director of Apache North Sea, will showcase two exploration wells in the Beryl field and the company’s large discovery at its Seagull prospect, located close to the Forties field.
In a thought provoking presentation entitled “UK Exploration – Where next?”, Chrysaor’s chief executive, Phil Kirk, will outline the challenges facing explorers on the UKCS and the steps being taken by the Exploration Task Force to re-evaluate mature areas while also targeting untapped resources more accurately.
Along with progress on the exploration front, production has improved with the latest DECC figures indicating the potential for a 10% rise in 2015. Operators are also anticipating a 22 per cent reduction in the cost of operating existing offshore assets by the end of 2016.
Chair of the Production Efficiency Task Force and Nexen’s director, UK operations, Ray Riddoch, will explain how pan-industry initiatives in areas including business processes related to shutdown planning and compression activities, are contributing to progress in the sector’s drive to increase production efficiency.
Following presentations from the industry, Gunther Newcombe, Director Exploration & Production at the Oil and Gas Authority, will provide an update on the OGA’s exploration and production initiatives and plans, as well as progress on the recent UK Government-funded seismic data acquisition programme.
After the briefing the speakers will take part in a panel session to respond to the audience’s questions in a discussion chaired by Oonagh Werngren, Operations Director, Oil & Gas UK.
