Stephen Flynn has seen off challenger Anouk Kloppert to secure his nomination as the SNP candidate for Aberdeen South and North Kincardine at the Scottish parliament elections next year.
Flynn previously sparked controversy when he revealed his intention to serve as both an MP and an MSP, but abandoned that plan after facing a backlash.
And now, Flynn has formally been nominated for the Holyrood election after his challenger, Aberdeenshire SNP councillor Anouk Kloppert failed to win the required backing at a branch meeting, The Times reports.
With the deadline for nominations on Monday next week, there is still time for another challenger to come forward.
However, this is thought to be unlikely, leaving the way clear for Flynn.
Flynn's move to Holyrood would likely mean a by-election for his Aberdeen South Westminster seat after MSPs voted to ban so-called "double-jobbing".
