Flowline Specialists receives Queen’s Award

Aberdeenshire energy industry equipment manufacturer and service provider Flowline Specialists has been presented with its Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade.

The Oldmeldrum-based company was presented with the prestigious accolade by the Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire, James Ingleby, when he visited its premises yesterday (Tuesday, September 6). Recognised internationally, the award is the highest official UK business award and acknowledges the successful internationalisation strategy that Flowline Specialists has adopted in recent years.

The firm’s international focus resulted in overseas sales growing by 2,600% to £3.4m in the six years to 31 March 2015. In the same period, turnover grew 640% to £6.36m, with overseas sales representing 55% of total turnover.

To support the growing level of international work, bases in Norway, The Netherlands and Singapore were established. These bases were supplemented last year with one in Dubai, which will help to drive activity in the Middle East, India and Africa.

The firm, which this year celebrates its 15th anniversary, currently employs around 55 staff.

During his visit, Mr Ingleby received a tour of the firm’s headquarters and was shown some of the equipment that Flowline Specialists supplies to clients in the oil and gas, subsea and renewable industries. The equipment, which the firm designs, engineers and manufactures, is used to safely handle flexible pipes, umbilicals and cables.

Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire, James Ingleby, said: “I am delighted to represent Her Majesty the Queen with the presentation of the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade. The dedication, dynamic and innovative approach of the management and team have paid dividends for the company and this award is thoroughly deserved.”

Jim Smith, CEO of Flowline Specialists, said: “Receiving the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade recognises the hard work invested by our whole team in developing the business. Their contributions have supported the evolution of Flowline Specialists from a UK focused business into an international one with overseas bases.

“It has been a pleasure to welcome the Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire to our premises and give him an insight into our business and operations.

“Receiving this respected award as we mark out 15th year of trading is very fitting, as it acknowledges the achievements of the business during this time. We continue to look to the future and will invest in our product range and service delivery so that we are well positioned to meet our clients’ needs in the coming years, both at home and overseas.”

Headquartered in Oldmeldrum, Aberdeenshire, Flowline Specialists designs, engineers and manufactures a wide range of equipment for the global oil, gas, subsea and renewable industries.
