An Aberdeenshire energy industry manufacturer and service provider that operates globally has become one of the latest Scottish firms to make the Scottish Business Pledge – a voluntary commitment to uphold the best business practices.
Oldmeldrum-based Flowline Specialists, which designs, engineers and manufactures a range of equipment that safely handles flexible pipes, umbilicals and cables for the global oil and gas, subsea and renewable industries, has signed up to the Scottish Government initiative.
The Scottish Business Pledge is designed to ensure that economic success is sustainable and develops alongside fairness, equality, opportunity and innovation in a modern Scotland.
The pledge has nine components which include: paying employees the living wage; agreeing to not use zero hours contracts; supporting progressive workforce engagement; investing in youth to harness new skills and ideas; making progress on diversity and gender balance; committing to an innovation programme; pursuing international business opportunities; playing an active role in the community; and committing to prompt payment.
The Scottish Business Pledge was accepted on the basis that Flowline Specialists has already met the majority of these requirements. This includes paying all employees at least the living wage, supporting workforce engagement and development, operating a programme of internationalisation and committing to developing an innovation programme.
Jim Smith, Flowline Specialists CEO, said: “Signing up to the Scottish Business Pledge reflects our commitment as a progressive company to fully embrace a range of core principles and practices in the way we operate. We are proud to pay all of our employees at least the minimum wage, which will assist in further strengthening our strong and dedicated workforce.”
“By signing this pledge, Flowline Specialists is making an important declaration to its employees, partners and stakeholders about the standards and ambition that the company will continue to strive for.”
Flowline Specialists joins a growing list of Scottish businesses, including some of its most influential, in taking the pledge. A full list of the companies is available here.
