A first look was held today (Wednesday, August 7) around the new community facility for Tillydrone just weeks before the official opening ceremony.
The final touches are being put to Tillydrone Community Campus which will bring together a range of services to help deliver the locality plans including existing community organisations including The Lighthouse, M26, and a range of council services.
In addition to providing vital services to those most in need, the centre will also include a library, crèche, cafe, and rooms for classes and activities. The regeneration work in the heart of the community will also include the demolition of the housing office to improve parking and loading arrangements in the area.
The first-look was held just two weeks before several days of activities are being held to mark the official opening/ The events are designed to be family-friendly, showcasing what activities are available at the Tillydrone Community Campus, and also letting people see inside the new £6m multi-service facility.
They include a fun day for families on Tuesday, August 20, with a programme of activities, taster sessions and information sessions on Wednesday, August 21, and Thursday, August 22, concluding with the official opening on Friday, August 23, including singing from Riverbank Primary School pupils.
Aberdeen City Council co-leader councillor Jenny Laing said: “The Tillydrone Community Campus will perform an important role in the area by providing support and improve the quality of life for many residents, and it will also be a centre for fun and learning.
“Local residents have been very involved in bringing together this fantastic new venue and I hope they have a great time at the fun events which are being held to celebrate the official opening.”
Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Councillor Douglas Lumsden said: “The new facility is one of several transformational events for Tillydrone which are designed to help regenerate the area to show it is a great place to live and work, including a new school and additional affordable housing.
“We’d encourage residents to go along to the events, have fun, and discover for themselves the great new facility in their local community.”
The name for the facility was chosen by local residents, along with the names for the rooms which reflect the local area - Donbank, Wallace, and Riverbank.
Aberdeen City Council has committed £4.1m towards the complex, while a further £1.9m grant has been received from the Scottish Government’s Regeneration Capital Grant Fund.
