Aspiring leaders from organisations across Aberdeen have been revealed by ActivityMix, with the announcement of the Captain of the Year award finalists. The award recognises and rewards a team leader who has made the most outstanding contribution to their company by leading their team through the Corporate Decathlon or Corporate Pentathlon process to engage, inspire and enthuse their colleagues throughout the year.
The award has been judged by three independent judges including Eilidh Geraghty, Business Development Project Manager from Sport Aberdeen who offered her knowledge of the sporting environment and experience from her previous role supporting Glasgow 2014 to judge the nominees. Tom Milne, Health & Safety Policy Manager at Oil and Gas UK brought vast knowledge and experience of the sector as well as the challenges being faced by many in the industry. As third judge, Wendy Atkinson, Business Development Manager at Mattolli Woods offered her understanding of investing in people in order to drive employee engagement and improve retention.
The judges were looking for demonstrations of strong development and leadership skills in addition to the achievement of the company objectives set when entering the programme. This involves the recruitment and motivation of teams throughout the year and the involvement of the non-playing community, as well as the encouragement of supporters with the purpose of breaking down barriers within the workplace.
The shortlisted nominees for Captain of the Year 2015 are Claire Martin of CNR International, Kirsten Torr of Halliburton and Rebecca Wain of Statoil.
Following the judging session Tom Milne, Health & Safety Policy Manager for Oil and Gas UK commented;
“It was great to be involved in the judging process for the ActivityMix Captain of the Year Award. Given that 2015 has been a challenging business year for many organisations, this award provides fantastic recognition to aspiring leaders who are helping to create strong workplace communities to provide a solid platform for future growth.
Richard Johnston, Managing Director of ActivityMix said:
“The role of Captain has proved to be a great way for aspiring leaders to develop and demonstrate their skills in a non-work critical context. Their role is to fulfill their organizational objectives for taking part in the Corporate Decathlon or Corporate Pentathlon. This year’s judging panel offers a wealth of experience and understanding of leadership and engagement and were extremely impressed by the submissions received.”
The winner of the Captain of the Year Award will be announced at the Sports Awards Ball on Friday October 30, 2015 at the Ardoe House Hotel along with Players Player Award and Charity Champion Award. The final scores and winners of the Corporate Decathlon and Corporate Pentathlon will also be revealed.
