With just one home remaining at its latest and final development in Cults, Cala Homes is on the cusp of completing the Friarsfield masterplan for the area which has been more than ten years in the making.
The housebuilder first began its journey to help shape the sought-after suburb in 2011 with the submission of a masterplan which would see it build more than 300 homes across seven developments and lasting links established between Cala and the Cults community.
The landmark project has seen the housebuilder invest more than £9million in the creation of key infrastructure, including Craigbank Drive which was designed to ease congestion and improve accessibility in the area. More than £3.77million in total in contributions have also been made towards local health, education, sports and recreation facilities, core paths and affordable housing.
Cala’s masterplan will be complete upon the sale of the last remaining five-bedroom Lewis home at its Friarsfield West development, located at Kirk Brae.
Fraser Carr, Sales and Marketing Director at Cala Homes (North), said: “Cults is a fantastic suburb of the city, it’s easy to see why it is a very popular location for homebuyers. It has great local amenities, well regarded schools and offers the perfect mix between a quiet village setting and quick access to the hustle and bustle of the city.
“Our Cults masterplan has been a huge project for many members of our team. If you look at the footprint of our developments in Cults, you can see how we’ve helped to shape the area into thriving neighbourhoods. Our developments will certainly stand out as a real landmark project for Cala in Aberdeen.”
The first phase in Cala’s Cults masterplan saw the creation of Rocklands, a small pocket of just four homes, with Hayfield Grange following soon after. This development was an exclusive collection of ten homes and included some of the housebuilder’s most impressive five-bedroom housetypes such as The Roxburgh and The Waverly.
Next came a collection of 73 four and five-bedroom detached homes, dubbed Rosefield Gardens, which took pride of place at the foot of ‘Jacob’s Ladder’, on the site of a former rose growing nursery.
In 2017, Cala launched the largest of its Cults developments, Cults Park, which saw the creation of 119 family homes set within 6.6 acres of green space.
Two intimate communities followed in the form of Gateway, a collection of eight two-bedroom apartments, and Craigton Mews, a pocket of 15 homes which included a brand new housetype for the region, The Oatfield.
Finally, Friarsfield West launched in 2021, creating the final 78 two, three, four and five-bedroom homes of the masterplan and bringing the total number of homes built by Cala in Cults to 307.
Fraser added: “Our homes aren’t the only legacy we’ve brought to Cults. We have developed and financially contributed towards key infrastructure, such as Craigbank Drive which was designed to ease congestion and improve accessibility in the area.
“We have made environmental improvements such as reinstating the Cults Burn as well as making financial contributions towards the provision of local services including education, healthcare, sports and recreation and affordable housing.
“We have also supported local groups and organisations through our community bursary initiative. We are well-known among families in the area for our annual Easter egg hunt.
“The first Easter egg hunt was organised in 2015. We partnered with local shops on North Deeside Road which displayed our egg decals in their windows. For every completed form we received, we donated £5 to Cults Primary School.
“In total we donated more than £3,000 and around 650 local children took part. This and other partnership work with the wonderful children, teachers and parents at Cults Primary over the years is something we’ve loved about being part of this community.”
The final five-bedroom Lewis at Friarsfield West is £699,000.
