Audiences can look forward to an evening of foot-stomping, fiery fiddles next month when the popular Orkney quartet FARA bring their latest tour to the acclaimed Deeside arts venue, St Margaret’s Braemar.
Saturday, March 15 is the opening concert of St Margaret’s 2025 season and what a night it promises to be.
This is FARA’s biggest-ever UK tour, celebrating their tenth-anniversary year.
Fiddlers Jeana Leslie, Catriona Price and Kristan Harvey all grew up in the islands and are joined by young Highland pianist Rory Matheson.
FARA’s exciting fiddles and intricate vocal harmonies have won them fans all over the world. They’ve continued to expand their reach with hints of jazz, classical and indie-pop but their deepest roots remain in the colours, light and sounds of their beloved Orkney.
“It’s hard to define exactly how Orkney inspires us, but first of all it’s just so stunningly beautiful,” says Jeana. “Even in bad weather, spectacular gales, massive black storms, waves crashing over cliffs – then the next day it can be flat calm, totally still and gorgeous and idyllic.”
Venue manager Lyndsey Boden says: “We’re delighted to welcome FARA to Braemar. It’s been a long winter and we’re all looking forward to the new season. FARA will be a magical evening but it will be the first of many in what is another exciting programme”.
