Falck Safety Services shines through for green awards

A leading safety training provider has been shortlisted for the Contribution to Skills Award at this year’s Scottish Green Energy Awards.

Falck Safety Services UK (Falck), which delivers more than 200 safety and survival training courses to the oil and gas, shipping, renewable energy, maritime, military and aviation industries each year, has been shortlisted by Scottish Renewables for the prestigious award, due to its long-standing commitment to offshore wind and safety training.

The safety training firm has provided considerable evidence of supporting the development of health and safety standards for offshore wind at both UK and EU level. Working closely with the wind industry to continually develop its courses, Falck delivers RenewableUK and GWO accredited training throughout the UK, with GWO accredited courses also delivered in Denmark, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Colin Leyden, managing director of Falck Safety Services UK, said: “Falck aims to provide clients with a realistic training environment, with all training equipment situated in the one location. Our facilities really are second-to-none as we utilise a 23.7m wind tower to enhance delegate’s working at height training experience and offer open-water training or a sheltered environmental tank depending on requirements. We keep this same focus on realistic training throughout our European centres - Germany, Denmark, Belgium and The Netherlands – all of which are GWO accredited centres and often get asked by clients to train at their own premises, which can be in the UK or continental Europe.

“For us, it’s about building contacts, maintaining good relationships and sharing best practice with our EU colleagues so that we are constantly in the know. We take part in industry steering groups so we’re actively involved in the changes being made and can have input into the development of these. We are also on the frontline for receiving this information due to our solid relationships with the industry bodies.

“Our advanced equipment combined with highly experienced instructors enables us to establish levels of competencies within both individuals and organisations, enhancing the safety of those who operate in or are linked to the renewables sector. Being shortlisted for this award is another great achievement for us, and again, positions us as a leader in this field.”

Niall Stuart, chief executive of Scottish Renewables said: “The Scottish Green Energy Awards shortlisting process is always a difficult one, with hundreds of entries vying for place in the final five in each category. The judges believed that Falck had a strong case for the Contribution to Skills category, with substantial evidence of helping to define and shape safety training for the renewables industry today. We congratulate them for that and wish them all the best on the night.”

The Scottish Green Energy Awards is hosted annually by Scottish Renewables to reflect on and recognise the determination, innovation and creativity that has defined the renewables industry.

The awards ceremony will take place tomorrow (Thursday December 3) in the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC). For more information on the awards, visit www.scottishrenewables.com
