The world of export and sanctions controls can be difficult to keep up with. The requirements are complex and can appear impenetrable. Penalties for breach of export and sanctions regimes are severe.
How do you know which restrictions apply to your business? Compliance in this area usually requires a cross-departmental approach involving those with roles in risk management, contracts, logistics and sales. Developing a reliable system to assess which restrictions apply and to ensure and monitor compliance is a necessity.
How can Burness Paull help?
This practical workshop uses country specific examples, including Iran and Russia, to teach you how to navigate this highly regulated area.
During the first half of the workshop you will be provided with an introduction to sanctions and export controls and provide clear guidance to enable you to identify and manage the risks.
Through various practical exercises you will also learn how to: ‒ identify and address problematic areas ‒ use publicly available resources to identify and categorise risks ‒ formulate effective compliance measures ‒ comply with the law in dealings with specific countries Delegates will also be taught how to avoid the common pitfalls and what to do when things go wrong.
You will then have an opportunity to test your understanding by considering real life scenarios and applying the practical skills necessary to identify and control the risks. This workshop can be in the form of general awareness training or more bespoke, depending on your needs.
