Exclusive ‘The Low Down’ event hailed huge success by organisers in supporting local businesses

An award winning Aberdeen salon has hailed its first ‘The Low Down’ event a huge success after welcoming over 100 guests through its doors, encouraging individuals to support local.

Linton & Mac, which is based in up-and-coming area, Netherkirkgate, hosted its very first ‘The Low Down’ event on Monday December 12 from 6.30pm – 9pm, supporting ten local businesses by giving them a platform to showcase their products and offering to an exclusive audience.

This is the first in a scheduled series of events to promote other local businesses in Aberdeen.

Educating individuals in a unique way about style, trends and the importance of supporting local creativity, the event was also fashioned to spark conversation about how to tackle the current climate in Aberdeen.

Focusing on the vibrant area of Netherkirkgate for its inaugural event, Linton & Mac plan to reciprocate the event to concentrate on several other areas around Aberdeen including, The Green, The West End and Old Aberdeen to name a few.

Numerous live retro Christmas demonstrations and presentations took place throughout the evening, with Linton & Mac's Art Team also presenting a never before seen fashion show, showcasing fashion styles and trends inspired by the 1960’s, highlighting how trends set 50 years ago are still relevant today.

Businesses involved included; Filthy Gorgeous, The Closet, Esker Gin, Mad Penguin, Rye & Soda, 10 Dollar Shake, Paperskeleton, Gray’s School of Art, Graeme MacDonald Photography, BrewDog, and Deeside Brewery.

Creative director or Linton & Mac, Jennifer Linton, said: “We were absolutely blown away by the support the event received and it was great to see the salon so busy. So many people interested in hearing all about the other businesses we were showcasing which was fantastic.

“The idea was formed following talks around the current campaign to shop local. We wanted to help promote numerous other businesses in the area, so decided to create an event which would bring multiple industries together, all supporting one another in helping to put Netherkirkgate on the map.

“Aberdeen has so much going on right now and it’s great to see so many people come out to support great events like ‘The Low Down’. We’re extremely proud of the event and would like to thank everyone who was involved, our fantastic staff, and the abundance of guests who we welcomed through our doors. We’re already in the process of starting to plan our next event which will hopefully take place in the first quarter of next year.”

Adrian Gomes, owner of drinks company 10 Dollar Shake, said: “I really enjoyed being involved in the first ‘The Low Down’ event with the Linton & Mac team. We have always driven collaborations with local businesses, valuing the community spirit it produces and the awareness it raises of the brilliant independent business’ that Aberdeen has in abundance.

“It doesn’t matter what the industry is, it’s essential that we all work together for the good of the city and to provide creativity to the local market. In the spirit of Christmas, we created a Dutch Eggnogg (aka Advocat) in front of guests, complete with portable stove and hand whisk - it seemed to go down pretty well!

“The reception and level of interest from those watching was very positive and Linton & Mac’s event allowed us, and other local businesses, a chance to showcase not just the products we have, but the creativity behind them. This is one event we definitely want to be involved in again.”
