Excellence in HR, training and recruitment celebrated at North-East awards

The winners of the annual cHeRries Awards, recognising excellence in human resources, recruitment and training in north east Scotland, were announced on June 4.

Twenty-six companies and individuals were shortlisted for nine awards that were presented at a ceremony at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre in front of an audience of around 500 industry professionals.

Robert Gordon University teaching fellow and human resource management group lead, Anne Stevenson, picked up the peer-nominated Top cHeRry Award.

This honour recognises an outstanding contribution in the field of HR, and was presented by Alan Fergusson, employee benefits director at category sponsor Mattioli Woods.

Chris Taylor from Subsea 7 received the RGU Golden cHeRry.

This one-off award, marking Aberdeen Business School at The Robert Gordon University’s (RGU) 50th anniversary, was designed to acknowledge an RGU graduate who has made a substantial impact on the HR industry.

The event was jointly organised by Aberdeen-based branding and design agency Hampton Associates, and HR, training and recruitment consultancy The Urquhart Partnership

Campbell Urquhart, group managing director of Hampton Associates and The Urquhart Partnership, said: “Yet again, we saw a high quality of entries from across a number of sectors in our region.

“Many demonstrated the emergence of even more innovative and cost effective approaches to address the challenges faced by the oil and gas industry in particular; a sector that remains a major contributor to the economy and a significant presence on the north east employment landscape.

“That flexibility separated them from their peers, making them well deserved award contenders and winners.”

TV star Hugh Dennis hosted proceedings, with top London-based party band Madhen providing musical entertainment.

The next cHeRies awards will be launched in November, with the winners announced at the ceremony on 2 June, 2016.
