The award winning Northern Lights Lounge at Aberdeen International Airport is celebrating its 5th birthday today (July 1).
Since opening in 2017 as part of the £20million terminal transformation project, the lounge has welcomed almost 300,000 passengers and boasts an impressive view of the airfield.
The lounge was a previous Scottish Thistle winner for its collaboration with local suppliers, something that has continued and been expanded upon. These include the likes of Barra Berries and Amity Fish Company.
To celebrate its birthday, The Kilted Chef, Craig Wilson visited Aberdeen International Airport to showcase a new menu and tasters.
Craig Wilson, Kilted Chef and owner of Eat on the Green restaurant in Udny Green comments: “After the challenges of the last couple of years it is great to be back in the Northern Lights Lounge celebrating its 5th birthday. I am extremely passionate about showcasing our fantastic local produce, and ESS very much share this ethos. I have been working in partnership with ESS to showcase their award-winning suppliers, promoting the finest, homegrown ingredients. From Aberdeen Angus beef to Barra Berries, passengers visiting the lounge can taste the best of Aberdeenshire before they head off on their travels."
Ronnie Kelman, Managing Director for ESS Energy, Government & Infrastructure, which operates the Northern Lights Lounge, commented: "We’ve enjoyed celebrating five years since the opening of the Northern Lights Lounge and we’re delighted that our partner, The Kilted Chef, was able to support the event and showcase the great local ingredients we use here. Our relationship with the airport has gone from strength to strength and we continue to evolve our offer in line with consumer preferences and market trends. Here’s to the next five years!”
Jemma Cumming, Head of Travel Services at AGS Airports said: “The Northern Lights Lounge has been an extremely popular addition to the airport as part of the terminal transformation and to celebrate our fifth birthday is truly special.
“We know our passengers think highly of the lounge and want to thank each and every one of them for their patience while we had reduced opening hours because of the pandemic.
“Today is a celebration with everyone involved in the lounge and we look forward to many more years to come.”
