Aberdeen charity TeamJak is £3,200 better off thanks to a huge fundraising effort by the Directors of local business applications support firm, Escone Solutions.
Co-owners Kevin Wyness and Mike Charles both took on gruelling challenges in August and September to raise money for the charity, which provides emotional, social and practical support to children and young people aged 0-25 with cancer and related illnesses, as well as their families, friends and those bereaved.
Kevin kicked off with a 70-mile cycle as part of the annual Ride the North Tour of Angus event, which took place on August 24. Starting in Arbroath, the route took competitors through Forfar, Kirriemuir, Menmuir and Edzell before finishing again in Arbroath.
In September, Mike completed the one-day Rat Race Coast to Coast 2024, which saw participants run, cycle and kayak across 100 miles of the Highlands. Starting in Nairn and finishing at Ballachulish, the race saw Mike attempt to run 21 miles, cycle 78 miles and kayak one mile across some of Scotland’s most unforgiving terrain.
Kevin, who also took part in the bike ride last year, said: “This year’s ride was brutal, but I was really pleased to have taken it on, completing in the same day as I started! TeamJak is a charity which is very close to our hearts – we have been supporting them for some time now. Raising money for such a good cause is a great motivator.”
This was the first time Mike had taken part in the Coast-to-Coast race, training for many months in the lead up.
“Being part of the event was terrifying but fantastic. There was a great sense of camaraderie which carried you through the day. It was hard work, and the conditions were far from perfect but worth every moment. Thanks to everyone who sponsored both Kev and I – it’s very much appreciated, and it all goes to a great cause.”
TeamJak said: “We at Team Jak are hugely grateful for everything Kevin, Mike and the team have done and continue to do for Team Jak in honour of our inspirational Louise.
“The difference your fundraising makes is phenomenal, and we are so grateful that you have helped us create smiles and ease the journey for our inspirational young people with cancer and their families throughout Scotland but particularly from our Aberdeen Jak's Den.”
