Energy from Waste plans on display at public events

Residents can view and ask questions about the final proposals for developing a new £150million Energy from Waste (EfW) facility on a disused industrial site at East Tullos.

Three drop-in events will be held in the local community where the proposals will be on display to coincide with the submission of the planning application this week.

The planned development would generate heat and power from waste that cannot be recycled, providing secure, low-cost energy to households, businesses and council facilities in the area. The facility would process non-recyclable municipal waste from Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray, helping the region meet national recycling targets and reduce waste being sent to landfill.

Council representatives and technical advisers will be available at the drop-in sessions to discuss the proposals. Information from the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and technical studies which have been undertaken to support the application will also be available.

Aberdeen City Council Zero Waste Sub Committee convener Councillor Jean Morrison said: “It is not sustainable to keep sending waste to landfill. The proposed Energy from Waste facility in East Tullos uses reliable and proven technology to recover value from the waste by creating energy, which will help to tackle fuel poverty.

“We have consulted with local people and businesses about the proposals. We’ve taken into account the feedback we received – positive and negative – and incorporated this into the design process and the final planning application.
"I would encourage people to go along one of the events and have a look at the final proposals.”

The first consultation event will be held at St Fittick’s Parish Church of Scotland, Walker Road, Torry, Aberdeen, AB11 8DL on Monday, February 29 from 12pm to 8pm. The second event will be held at Aberdeen Altens Hotel, Craigenlow Suite, Souterhead Road, Aberdeen, AB12 3LF on Tuesday, March 1 from 12pm to 8pm. The final event will be held at Tullos Primary School, Assembly Hall, Girdleness Road, Aberdeen, AB11 8FJ on Wednesday, March 2 from 3.30pm to 7pm.

Once the planning application has been validated, members of the public will have the opportunity to make representations to Aberdeen City Council as part of the statutory consultation process.
