Residents and owners in eight high-rise buildings across Aberdeen are being asked for their views on the potential demolition of the buildings.

The new Aberdeen City Council (ACC) demolition will propose five ideas, each costing "significant" amounts of money, including demolition.

Some of the 839 flats on the chopping block no longer meet energy requirements.

Modernising the buildings would cost the local authority more than £400m over three decades, while replacing blocks, many of which have deteriorated, would cost around £378m.

Where are they?

The 839 flats span across the city, with each resident asked to specify which high rise they stay in due to them being in "quite different conditions".

The eight buildings included are:

  • Gilcomstoun Land
  • Greig Court
  • Hutcheon Court
  • Marischal Court
  • Porthill Court
  • Seamount Court
  • Thistle Court
  • Virginia Court

Historic Environment Scotland had previously A-listed all of the buildings in 2021, although upon appeal from ACC, Greig, Hutcheon and Thistle Courts were delisted.

The heritage status will also be considered in deciding the future of the multi-storeys.

Aberdeen City Council Communities, Housing and Public Protection Committee convener Councillor Miranda Radley said: "Aberdeen City Council is carrying out a consultation with residents and owners in eight city centre multi-storeys as part of a full options appraisal for the future of the buildings.

"It is incredibly important for residents and owners to engage with the consultation either at one of the drop-in events or by completing the consultation online, as these are people's homes and everyone must have their say."

The consultation is available online until Friday, November 11, and discussions with residents’ groups will be held during the consultation period.
