On Friday, August 28, electra Learning held a staff and partners quiz night in aid of their charity of the year, CLAN.
The event was held in electra’s very own glass roofed atrium, which was transformed in to a CLAN themed entertainment space for the evening. It was £5 entry to the event and 22 staff and partners came along.
The evening kicked off with the quiz which included a partners baby picture round, as you can imagine, this round produced some comical answers. The winning team received a sought after winner’s medal and a sweets hamper. The quiz was followed by ‘pin the tail on the donkey’, tombola, guess how many sweets are in the jar and a raffle.
All of the prizes had been donated by electra staff and all games and activities were 20p, 50p or £1 to take part in. Some fantastic prizes were donated including gift vouchers, champagne, beauty hampers, cooking equipment and the top prize for the raffle was a one hour long cruise trip for up to 10 people, around the Aberdeen harbour and Torry battery to see the Aberdonian dolphins, worth over £200.
Once the excitement of all the games and activities had died down a little, guests started to get their dancing shoes on whilst tucking in to the delicious food laid out, also prepared and provided by members of electra staff. Before time, the final activity of this fun packed event had arrived- Bingo. With game faces on, once everyone had grasped the concept (which took longer for some), guests bagged the final prizes of the evening for completing one line, two lines and a full house.
Whilst nobody wanted the night to end, the prizes had run out, the shoes were off and most importantly, the donation buckets were full. Before long, the final money count had been completed and it was announced that the total raised for CLAN from the event was an amazing £406.70, bringing electra’s total money raised in 2015, through various events, for CLAN to an impressive £1263.41.
electra’s Operations Manager, Donna McWilliams, was very impressed with the event, ‘There was a wonderful buzz about the office in the lead up to the event with everyone contributing to prizes and fully supporting the fund raising efforts. Steph Johnston did a great job organising the event and on the night everyone had a blast and dug deep for a great charity close to many of our hearts.’ CLAN have praised electra since, saying what ‘a fantastic amount you have raised! Well done to all involved!’
The money will go towards helping the charity provide emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer, their family, carers and friends. The services CLAN provide are freely offered to all, from pre-diagnosis and diagnosis through treatment and beyond, across north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.
