Whatever the weather this summer visit St Machar’s Cathedral to delve back into Old Aberdeen’s ancient past.
Four summer fun days include a family tour round the building to experience the founding of the church in 580, Robert the Bruce’s exploits in Aberdeen, the disastrous collapse of the central tower and the mystery of the missing bells.
There are costumes for dressing up, the chance to get up close to medieval charters, feel the power of the Cathedral’s magnificent organ under your fingertips or learn the basics of bell ringing.
A craft table with clay, wood and colour to make your own shield to take home and a miniature Shield Trail to complete inspired by the five-hundred-year-old heraldic ceiling.
Open daily 09.30-16.30 ( 11.00 service on Sunday morning ).
Families of all ages welcome to explore the Cathedral and grounds. Engage with our fun touchscreen puzzles, miniature Shield trail and Young Explorer leaflets.
If the sun shines take part in a wildlife trail in the graveyard and experience the award-winning Community Biodiversity Project up close with magnifying glasses.
