A North-east energy company is giving people the opportunity to own a unique piece of Dons memorabilia to help raise funds for charity – a signed Angus the Bull shirt.
Amplus Energy Services Ltd has sponsored the fans’ favourite for the last 10 years, and company bosses are hoping the mascot’s gigantic jersey and shorts will help Camphill School Aberdeen raise the vital funds it needs to construct an outdoor sensory adventure and learning playground in its grounds.
The first of its kind in the North-east, the facility at Camphill School Aberdeen’s Milltimber site will be free and accessible for any young person with a sensory disorder or learning disabilities who would benefit from relaxed play sessions. To help the cause, Angus will be attending Camphill’s upcoming quiz night, to help auction the home kit the bull wore with pride last season.
Tickets are still available for the action-packed ‘Back to School’ themed quiz night, which is being held on Thursday February 27 2025 at Union Kirk, Aberdeen. Tickets include a school dinner, a school disco and a school quiz, all hosted by Camphill’s school headmaster, Alex Fleming, who is one of the UK’s top after-dinner speakers and event hosts.
Amplus managing director Steve Gardyne said: “We are entering the 11th year of our sponsorship deal with Angus, and we are delighted to be able to give fans the chance to get their hands on one of his famous kits. The Dons play such a big role in the community, and hopefully together we will be able to give back to that community through this unique auction.
“There is no doubt the Dons inspire many with their performances on the pitch - the work at Camphill is equally inspiring, and I am sure the playground will make a huge difference to all that use it. It’s fantastic to be contributing to this deserving cause, and I am sure the Red Army will act quickly to buy tickets for what will be a great fundraising quiz night - made even better by having the chance of winning Angus’s kit.”
Angus the Bull added: “Not many people have one of my signed shirts, so make no ‘misteak’, this is a fantastic opportunity to grab a rare piece of memorabilia. Amid all the excitement of the new season starting, I hope all my fans remember to get a moove on and get their tickets for putting in a bid on the night to help this brilliant cause.”
Amplus has already donated £20,000 towards the purchase of equipment for the playground, which will be open for any young person with a sensory disorder to access relaxed play sessions.
Amplus executive director, Ian Herd, has a nephew, Scott Ewing, who attends Camphill and has seen first-hand the difference the charity can make to the lives of young people with complex additional support needs from across the North-east.
Ian said: “The residents at Camphill School Aberdeen have been lucky enough to meet Angus a couple of times, and seeing the reaction of some of the residents when they meet him is great. We’re proud to sponsor Angus and would be delighted if this not-so-small kit donation was able to help bring even more smiles to their faces.”
Camphill School Aberdeen is a local charity supporting children and young people - many with additional support needs - to reach their fullest potential. It is a community of 450 people - students, staff, volunteers and retired staff, with around 200 people living on site.
The bid to construct the playground is part of Camphill School Aberdeen’s Building Futures, Transforming Lives, Together capital appeal campaign, which it is hoped will raise £10million over 10 years to increase capacity by 60%, including the building of three new sustainable residential homes.
