Donald Russell employee to climb to Everest base camp

Donald Russell’s technical manager Paul Guest will attempt a climb to Everest Base Camp this September, in aid of The Prince’s Trust.

All going well, Paul will celebrate his 44th birthday on the route, which will take him through the spectacular Nepalese mountain ranges to the lower reaches of the world’s highestmountain, Everest.

Paul’s trail will take him from the most dangerous airport in the world through snowy

slopes, pine and rhododendron forests, alpine meadows and yak pastures. He will cross glaciers, traverse ice-covered torrents, and skirt mountain lakes, and will hopefully have the time and energy to visit some Nepalese monasteries, schools and villages as well.

Some of his days will have to be spent acclimatising to the immense altitude to ward off

sickness; luckily he will have jaw-dropping scenery to appreciate while he does so.

Paul is undertaking lots of preparation for this arduous trek, including bagging multiple

munros and taking part in the National, Welsh and Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge.

He says, “For someone who now loves to spend his weekends in the mountains of Scotland, the chance to travel to Nepal and trek through the Himalayas up to Everest base camp is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I wasn’t going to let pass me by.

"When I challenged myself back in August 2018 to complete the National 3 Peaks

Challenge, little did I realise that it would trigger my 'Mountain (mid) Life Crisis'

I’ve bounced back from a hard-hitting illness earlier this year to bag 40 (so far) of Scotland’s 282 Munros and now it’s almost time for me to board my flight.

"The Prince’s Trust is a Charity that I believe passionately in. It provides support for 11-30 year olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to transform their lives. And that is why I’m very proud to be undertaking the trek to Everest base camp in support of the Prince’s Trust."

All donations will go to the Prince’s Trust; the costs incurred while preparing for and taking part in this trek are being funded personally.
